Princeton is a locally owned and run, our control room is in the heart of our armed response area, and through initiatives, and flexible business practices, we are able to assist communities in ways in which larger security companies could only dream of.
This Mandela Day, we are supporting a local business, Relocation Africa, with the distribution of sandwiches to the communities in need, but with security and risk management at the core of all we do, we partnered with Uturn to ensure that these donations were distributed in a responsible manner.

Summary of this initiative:
This initiative aligns with our year of empowerment, which extends beyond our internal growth to empowering our community. Partnering with U-turn and Princeton Security reflects our core values:
- Consider the Person: We believe in the power of each of our differences – Seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another, and feeling with the heart of another.
- U-turn, known for empowering individuals experiencing homelessness, embodies our values by restoring power to those in need.
- Princeton Security enthusiastically joined us, demonstrating our commitment to community engagement by actively participating in our efforts.
This collaboration isn’t merely a corporate social responsibility initiative; it’s a heartfelt endeavor to impact lives directly within our community, resonating deeply with our company values.
More about the Uturn Program
Uturn is not a soup kitchen. The program promotes involvement from the people they assist, and through the various stages of their intake, they ensure that there is always a sense of responsibility, and reward.
Below are the stages of the Uturn Program:
P1:
This is the stage where people who need assistance are displaced and living on the streets. There are a number of ways in which the program supports them:
Firstly, cleaning the streets, and returning bags of collected waste are rewarded with meals at the service centers, these are dotted throughout the western cape, making it accessible for all.
Secondly, residents and community members who are willing and able to assist can purchase vouchers, which allows the displaced people to purchase clothing, bedding, food and other essentials from the Uturn charity shops.
In addition to these two means of getting everyday essentials, the Uturn centers also offer spiritual support and guidance, allowing their clients to feel loved in an inclusive environment.
Meals are served 3 times per day at all service centers, and only people who are active participants in the program are afforded the opportunity to share a meal – encouraging involvement and productivity.
P2:
This is the Second Phase of the program, where a displaced person may choose that they want to make changes in their lives.
There are many causes for homelessness, but the leading causes are drug and alcohol addiction. So are part of the P2 phase of the program, clients are offered housing, rehabilitation and counselling. They would be responsible for assisting with everyday operations to provide service to the previously mentioned P1’s.
This portion of the program, which is the intensive recovery and sobriety phase can last up to 4 months.
Once Clients are clean and sober and have been forming part of the community for a consistent period, and shown their development, they will progress to the final stage of the program.
P3:
This phase is just prior to the “Integration” phase. This is where the client would live in a safe house and work for a wage within the Uturn network of stores and centers. They will learn valuable skills such as client service, money management and build sustainable, healthy routines. They are now able to purchase their own meals and essentials.
This phase can last up to 2 years, with ongoing coaching, support and guidance.
Finally, Uturn then sources job opportunities in the “Outside” world for the P3 clients to embark on the next step of their journey.
